What does it take to be an ECS resource parent?
As a foster parent, you make a commitment to provide a child with the care he or she is unable to receive from his or her family. We use the term “resource parents” because we view foster care as much more than an alternative place to live. Our resource parents work as part of a supportive team to make sure the needs of the child are met and to help birth parents make plans for their children.
Can you provide a loving home to a child in need?
To be eligible you must be:
- A resident of the Philadelphia area
- Of any marital status
- Between the ages of 25 to 60
- Of any race, culture or religious background
- In good physical health
- Willing to care for a special needs child
- Willing to help birth parents learn to care for their children
A foster care recruiter will work with you to complete an in-home certification process.
Children who need foster care come from all backgrounds. Many ECS foster children have special medical needs. These may include:
- Diabetes
- Respiratory Problems
- Hearing and Speech Impairment
- HIV/AIDS Exposure
- Emotional or Behavioral Problems
- Feeding Disorders
